Of course uniform compaction assumes that all the weight is equal on all four legs. If you put something on just one corner of the stand it is then unequal pressure and uneven compaction. I was using it more of an example that you really have not much too worry about with your shims. That the carpet would in all likely hood be a larger concern than the shims cracking. And I don't really think the carpeting is all that big a deal.Shouldn't the carpet be theoretically uniform, resulting in an even compacting?
Then again, it was theoretically level to begin with, and my stand was theoretically level when I built it...
