I made an emergency run to the LPS this week for a stand for my 30g when I realized the surface I had it on was bowed in the middle, only supporting the ends of the tank.

They had ONE 36" stand, made by Perfecto. It's a wooden stand. The top of the stand is open. The tank sits down inside the upper trim and is supported on the ends, but there is nothing directly underneath the tank except for the ends.

Is this normal, or a disaster waiting to happen? I went ahead and set it up thinking if it's made for a 30g tank, it must be okay, but someone else's thread has me more concerned now.

mine to, i remember from school that the ends of a structure support whats on it, not whats necessarily in the middle., though it couldnt hurt right?

I would be concerned if the stand is not place on a perfectly level surface because glass doesn't flex, it breaks. personally I think I would avoid this type of stand, but I'm picky like that, I didnt like the stand that came with my tank, so I built my own...

most manufacturers want the tank supported around the whole perimeter. It it was me, I'd only use Perfecto tanks with that stand.

Hmm, I don't know what brand my tank is. I got it for Christmas. I am really worried about this now.

Is it all around the rim? Most tanks sit up the plastic edge so there isn't a need for anything across the bottom. As long as the stand has corner bracing etc (more than wood staples) to hold it together it should be ok. If there isn't anything for ALL the edges to sit flat on I'm not sure I'd trust even an empty tank on it. Sometimes store employees are not the best at putting things together &/or parts can be missing.

Here's where the supports are.... my lines are a bit thin but this is just to show the placement of support.
