I’m saving up to get a 40 gallon tank soon, but the problem I’verun into is the stand. I don’t have the money for the $150-$200 dollar ones at petsmart. I’m planning to put it upstairs in my room. I thought about using cinderblocks but I feel like that would end up being too heavy for the floor. As wellas all the solid wood TV stands and dressers that I’ve looked at are all reallyexpensive.
Would it be fine to set up my aurum on the floor?
Or would it be ok to use the cinderblocks, but maybe lessthan 3 high?
And lastly do you have any other alternatives?

Alternative build a wood stand like to commercial stand.
This is my homemade cabinet

Not to hi Jack this thread, but Argo that is a very nice stand.

I wouldn't put a tank straight on the floor. I've had several tanks that are on low stands (think the lowest was a 55 that was on a 2x4 base, so just ~3.5 off the floor). The lower tanks are at risk of being hit while cleaning, and are also more of a challenge for maintenance, since draining runs by gravity-siphon, unless you can drop the end of the siphon down some stairs, it's a PITA.

That said, if you have access to a saw, you can knock together a pretty decent stand for not too much time/cost. Or use concrete blocks.

Sabina, what are the dimensions of your 40g tank? Google "brooklyn metal tank stand" from Petco. They are heavy-duty and very reasonable. Other than that, DrsFosterandSmith has great mail-order deals on stands, as does Petsmart and Petco. I mail-ordered the stands for my 29g and 55g. Worked out great.

Argo, awesome stand! Control panels we have at work aren't as neat, clean and well-built!

Tanks, I think I might end up using cinder blocks.
Also I agree Agro, that is a really cool stand.
