I can not keep the kh in this tank. I added the new substrate on 5-14-10 and it sucks up everything in the water. The PH goes from 6.8 to 5.8 and the Kh goes from 4 to nothing overnight. Is there something i can do or do i just have to wait for it to stabilize? I also lost three Harlequin rasboros today and the water is a little cloudy looking. After a water change last night.

baking soda or crushed coral

since it's your substrate sucking it up cc might be the go-to product.

there substrate is sms ( soil master select ) if that helps any.

is the tank old or newly setup?

SMS will suck KH out of the water for up to a year. If you feel like it's a problem, baking soda or crushed coral. For most SA fish and a lot of Asian fish it's not a problem and quite beneficial.
