I have been looking at aqua scapes and want to start a project .I was curious as to why no one uses back rounds .Is it like taboo to use a cool pic of a mountain, or will it take away from the scape?

Some people do use backgrounds. It's all a matter of personal taste. But what is the focus of an aquarium? What's the reason that you put a fish in a glass box in the first place? To look at a cool background? Or the fish?
Like I said, some people do use backgrounds, but if the background is visually more important than the fish, then it shouldn't be a background for a fish, it should be hanging up on its own.

I would just use whatever makes it look the best for you. I personally don't use the non-solid color backgrounds because i feel it takes away from the aquascape that i've worked hard to achieve.
I've seen some really cool tanks with "photo" backgrounds though. I always think of
this awesome aquascape. This one's background is pretty understated, but used very well.
It just comes down to what you like!

thanks guys very insightful and those pics helped a lot .that's the look i am looking for a transition less never ending look

You dont see pictured backgrounds, being that the point of an aquascape is the plants themselves. Black being the most popular background, because it makes the plants and fish stand out.

Black also creates the illusion of depth.

You don't need a background when your tank already has plants...
Why not just have plants that look like the background?

In my opinion, it takes away from the good looks.

Whatever you decide to do, remember two things: 1) it's your tank and whatever makes you happy and pleases your eye is what matters and 2) you'll never learn anything new if you don't play around and experiment -- try whatever strikes your fancy. And C) if it's not fun, you're doing it wrong.
