Aquatic Gardens 6.6 gallon Bookshelf Aquarium Review

Re: Aquatic Gardens 6.6 aquarium

WOW...great write up & pics. Still not a lot posted online about this kit. I've never seen it in stores so the write up was an eye opener since I just found this lil gem of a tank posted on my Craigslist...never saw or heard about it before. Person upgraded after a few months or weeks and no longer wanted it. For a mere $15.00 I thought it was a steal. Pic posted was stock but nothing like the great pics and write up here.
I pick it up tomorrow, can't wait. Not sure what I'll use it for. I seem to collect tanks (and birdcages). Wonder how it would work as a nano reef, or perhaps a dwarf seahorse tank.....or.....:grinyes:

VERY VERY informative. Thanks.

pretty old post, but i just saw this tank at my petco recently. i like the design of it. there needs to be more long, bigger footprint, shallow tank designs.... i don't like all of the 'tall' tanks which seem to be most of the tanks out there...

$50 is too much for me though... i'll give it a second look if i ever see it for sale for $35...

Looks nice

This sleek, unobtrusive 6.6 gallon looks very nice, very classy. I've had mine about 2 months. My Betta loves his home and the filter isn't too strong for him. My only concern is possible leakage at the top and bottom. I know leakage can occur at the top because I've seen it. There is a detachable black, plastic rim around the upper edge. If the tank is full of water, and you press against the acrylic just below the rim, water will drip out between the rim and the acrylic and run down the front of the tank. Ok, so don't push on it, but still.

The black plastic rim on the bottom is similar, but it appears to be attached and maybe sealed. However, I get some strange build-up on the edge of the rim where it meets the acrylic. I really can't determine what it is, but it isn't hard water build up, it wipes away too easily. I can't press on it and make it drip like the top piece, but I'm still not sure what's going on with the white stuff.

Give this eye-catching tank a chance, just keep your receipt until you're sure. It really will fit on a bookcase, but if you do place it on a shelf you'll never be able to get to the top of the tank when it's full of water well enough for maintenance and cleaning. Mine is on the very top of a sturdy bookcase and looks great.

I just wanted to say that this post was really helpful! Granted I didn't find it until I had already bought the thing, but reading up on it was still very informative.

I did notice the weirdo no brand name filter, but I haven't had any issues with it so far. It runs quietly and the flow is adjustable, which is really nice. I took the filter out and am using it as a sponge filter. I haven't actually put my betta in the tank yet, I was letting it cycle first just to make sure nothing fell apart, haha.

I found this at petco after looking everywhere (walmart, target, petsmart, petland, etc..) for a suitable Betta tank. I love how commanding this one looks, especially in comparison to your basic 5 gallon. It feels much larger and gives my betta the perfect amount of swimming space, I think. The kit was 39.99 on sale at Petco when I went. They had two. Mine doesn't seem to have any scratches or anything. I've always owned glass so this was a venture for me.

They had another kit which I thought was glass, a 10 gallon kit by All Glass Aquariums that was also 39.99. It came with a few extra things but incandscent lights instead. I decided I like the size and dimensions of this one better. So far we are really happy with it.

There was, however, alot of frustration looking at the instructions that came with the filter... oye!

Thanks again for this post. Lets keep it alive because it is really helpful. I'm glad I went this route instead of a sad little 2.5 gallon. I can't wait to get Modiggly in his aquarium tonight!

I have this tank and originally it was our Betta aquarium. I am now using it as an invert only tank. I think anyone who buys it might want to consider the following.

1. Upgrade that filter. I am using an AquaClear20 instead of the filter that came with the kit.

2. Be aware that if filled all the way to the top it does leak; info was provided about this in the initial post on this thread. If you aren't aware of this leak you will go crazy looking for it. You have to deal with the fact that you will see a water line approximately 1/3 inch at the top.

Other than that this tank is a keeper.
