Aragonite: good or bad?

I have pool filter sand in 2 tanks. They are a beige tan color, very natural looking - just like beach sand. And they were only $5.99 for a 50lb bag. Check around your pool supply stores and ask them. I guess I got lucky, I didnt know there were different colors :)

Ok, I bought some pool filter sand. Do you need to rinse it like you do other sands? Since I've never done this, let me make sure I know how. You put some in a small bucket and then spray it with the hose until there is hardly any sand stirred up in the water anymore.

I washed mine in a big tub or deep bucket filled only 1/4 of the depth with sand.
Put a running hose in & stir with your hand. Periodically turn off the water & tilt to remove more water & impurities. Continue until the water is clear. Fun on a hot day like today.

Pool sand is MUCH cleaner than the play sand I used.

Sand & gravels are usually fairly local in origin, too expensive to ship far. So everyone will have a slightly different kind available.

We use Aragonlite in our tanks, the ph stays at 7.8, along with driftwood.........:)
