Arapaima Pond Build

Two words explain this perfectly.
Absolutely fantastic!
:D

Thanks Trevor, enjoying every bit of it, including the reports and feedback on AC and MFK.
Came in this morning, water did not drop anything that I could see or measure.
The small koi are not so small anymore, so I'm really looking forward to move them to the grow-out hopefully this Saturday.
One last push for the coming month and we can officially celebrate finishing stage 1, full pond and filters up and running.
Will be a nice party at the pond...lol.

Water looks better than yesterday. Might be sunshine versus cloudy, but you can see deeper into the pond.
Mr. T. is all happy with daily prawns. Following everyone close to the pond to see if he gets more.
Maybe get the liner today, and start preparing the last bits to roll it out on Saturday.
Will need to buy more pipes and fittings as well to get the water-diffusers done. 2 this time.

Interesting bit I saw this week: 12v sewage pumps. Small but claiming 3000 GPH.
Coupled with a solar-panel, I might look into them for creating flow in the pond and/or alternatives for the current pumps to save on the bills.

That's phase 2... first get all up and running..

Cheers,
Luc

He's as nice a pet as you can imagine...
Had a good laugh looking at our cleaning lady feeding him...he's just lying there in the water, looking at her..she's almost in the water with her face talking to him. Bowl with prawn next to her..
Every time a piece of prawn comes out, he moves a bit and she's teasing him by slowly moving the prawn 5 cm in front of his mouth and away.
He just follows with his mouth open and she literally puts the prawn in his mouth and he chews a bit, swallows it and then it starts again.
Absolutely amazing to watch.

On the pond, this morning again, no loss at all that I can see. The water drops only from blowing out the bottom-drains of the settling-tanks.
If this stays, then we're looking at less than a centimeter from evaporation and maybe 2-3 cm p/week from cleaning. But even that can be brought down, since there's hardly any rubbish collecting to clean every day.
So we're good. Liner for Bog 2 comes in today, 11 x 7 meter, same dark color as the first bog. Hope we can manage to put it in this afternoon.
Tomorrow all my guys are out for customer-pickup, so I'll have the work cut out for me and the cleaning lady to make 2 diffusers, fill and clean the bog and see if we can test-run.
Instead of making 2 diffusers, I might consider making a bigger/longer one in L-shape. Not sure yet on that.

Got a nice change of idea for the second bog. As you can see in the pictures, the metal racks around it are shaped to form a shelf, allowing for plants to be put on them.

But since the liner is going to be draped all around the bog, over the shelf to the ground, I figured to make that first step a 'water-shelf'. Just drape it over and in that shape, not connected to the pond/filter/bog in anyway, but it will hold enough water to drop in a lot of Guppies, Lotus-flowers and other small fish...
With a thin layer of stones on the bottom around the lotus-flowers, it's going to look very nice. Full sun, so they will grow nuts, Guppies to take care of Mosquito's and it will form a very nice border around the bog. Guess I can manage around 30cm deep, which is perfect for Lotus.

Going to try that first. Can always fill it up later. Pretty sure it will work.

Cheers,
Luc

Pictures?:dance2:

Sigh...not too demanding those people on AC...:headbang2:

You will get your weekly dose of pictures tomorrow...not today...sit still, wait and relax...hahaha
Not fair...I know... To rub it in a bit more, got one of our CCTV camera's on the pond. So I can log in any time and see how it's doing.. Sorry, can't share that camera...

So is it at your work instead of between the two houses? I must have missed that.

You must have missed a lot if you missed that...lol.
its indeed at work, and in hindsight, a better choice anyway. Wonder how big he will be in 4 years, but sure the 7x3 meter would have been too small.

Today nothing done, tomorrow it's only me and the cleaning lady.
dont expect too much changes from last week.
Will try to get the liner in for sure and maybe even fill up the grow-out.

No pictures yet, late afternoon, but we're making progress, even with only two of us.
Steel plates all in, underliner finished.
Unpacked and rolled up the new liner.
Afternoon will make for putting the liner in and slowly filling up at least the grow-out tank.
If that all holds properly, then we'll bring it into the system tonight...

Later...
Luc
