Hi Friends,

Its been more than 3 months now, since I shifted my 12 Frontosas from the 4 Feet 50 Gallon tank to a 7 Feet 212 Gallon tank and I feel that they have'nt grown at all since then.

3 of the 12 frontosas have remained at the size of 3" since I bought them ( about 8 months now) and I'm pretty sure they are stunted but the others who seemed to grow well and steadily in the 50 Gallon also have stopped growing since they have been moved to the big tank.

I feed them once a day with NLS / Dainichi / Frozen Artemia etc... and chance 30% water every week.

The only change I made to the colony was that I added 4 large ( about 7" ) frontosas that were rescued from a hobbyist who no longer wanted them.

Is it possible that because of the addition of large fronts to the colony, the others have stopped growing - because they no longer are the dominant fish ? Is this possible with fronts ?

Also is there any way that I can make them start growing again ?

Kindly excuse me if this is a dumb question - but this really worries me and I'll be so grateful if you can kindly guide and help me Friends...

Thanks a lot !
Regards and Care

nope they havent stoped growing they just grow really slow is all i kno. but im not an expert with fronts so wait tell others chim in

personally I would say try feeding them some shrimp and salmon from the market and don't worry they will blossom over time

it is kind of like watching a pot of water when you are looking it won't boil then suddenly when you least expect it is at a full boil.

I would say up the water change to 50%

They are slow growers, Kush... and 3 months is not too much time, IMO. But I have 2 questions: What % of water did you change weekly when the fronts were in the 50gal? Can you check the nitrates level in their water?

You worry to much Kush they are extremely slow growers it took mine 4 years to reach 9 inches from the 2 inch size.. All were purchased at the same time and all grew at their own rate some were 9" some were 6" but all in all they will reach maturity in their own time for a fish that lives for 25 years i wouldn't rush them..

If you must do anything go for twice a day feedings but step up the water changes to 50% weekly or do two 30% twice weekly water changes would be my best recommendation..

Hi Friends,

Thanks a lot for the kind replies and for caring so much - really so grateful.

I want to increase the feeding but I'm unable to do it. I get time to feed my tanks only in the night as I'm away all day. Infact I can say I'm nocturnal and so are my fish because of this. All my tanks are Covered the whole day, so they are pitch black. I remove the covers by 8 in the evening and let the lights be on upto 5 in the morning - thats when I retire and go to sleep. I feed my fish in the middle of this time period.

Is it possible that this reversal of day and night (from the natural day-night cycle) could be the cause of this ? I'm really sure because 3 of my fronts have remained at the same size for almost an year now - just about 3" - these are the ones that were in pretty bad condition when I bought them and these are the ones that have mooning on them...

Kindly guide me Friends...

Thanks a lot again !

i highly doubt that the light cycle would effect their growing in anyway. i know as a general rule to promote growth, its good to feed multiple small feedings as opposed to one big one and frequent water changes.

Thanks again for the kind reply - just had one more question. I've heard discuss keepers de-worming their fish with some medication - can / should I be trying something like that ? Kindly excuse me if this is a dumb question - just wanted to be sure and check if I'm missing something....
