I was wondering if your water has any benefits from corals. I have heard that some of the mushrooms will "eat" some of the waste in the water. So I was wondering if it is kind of like how freshwater plants are good for the freshwater tanks

not really. there are macro algae while will removce nitrates and phosphates. some corals which grow really really fast like xenia and some mushrooms will, but youd have to a( have a lot of waste, and b) have a LOT of specemins. some people say clams do because they ahve so much more zooxanthellae than most corals, but once again, it;s not goign to be enought o notice.
