well the title says it all really.a little info...I have a 16g tank I am wanting to set up as a planted setup. I am thinking of keeping some smaller fish like pencilfish some panda cories maybe a couple of ottos. I really like the dwarf crayfish but know nothing about them. Is this just a pipedream?
I never saw my dwarf crays (cajun and CPO) going after my fish. Fry may be a concern, but only if they're so slow that they can be caught. I've also kept mine with yellow and malawa shirmp and I never had a problem. I did have one or two that would eat my pond snails and ramshorns
I don't know about other dwarf crays but my CPOs are quite skittish and will fling themselves across the tank if a cherry shrimp comes to close to them. They are not the most agile creature so most adult fish should be quick enough to swim away. They are however stealthy and capture prey by sneaking up on them. So you can probably get away with keeping some fish but the crays may get them eventually so I wouldn't recommend it.
I have never had a cambarellus cray EVER hurt a fish or shrimp They are considered plant and fish safe. More of an issue is if you keep multiple dwarf crays in that tank they may have aggression issues between each other.
but nano fish might be having better chances of survival as most nano fish are really fast/agile, and thats why they look great next to gian angels and discus
larger fish(which create larger surface areas for the crays to grab/pinch at) would be more at risk if u think about it logically, but thats jmo.
Rachel definitely knows her stuff, I wouldn't hesitate to agree with her...my LFS just started carrying CPOs recently ($6 each) and they have them in their guppy tank It's jammed full of floating cabomba...(I am not sure they mean for it to be floating)
