Are Aquariums at the Marlins' New Ballpark Fish Abuse?

The only thing that is wrong with that, is the ugly fake coral inserts.

It's in a baseball stadium not in the middle of a woods. Lol

True, but there are normally large lights and stuff that are suspended rather high up. If one were to fall, it would probably damage the tanks. But I guess saying that is like saying if my house fell apart my tanks would be broken.

I just didnt get the point of it. I would think it was cool if they put tanks as the counters of the ticket stand or something. But right behind home plate is pretty stupid.

Just another reminder that for many people, aquariums are a sign of affluence...no MTV crib home would be complete without a ridiculous aquarium in some incredibly inconvenient location. I don't feel like this is any worse than those giant, fake coral aquariums with a backdrop of a huge plasma TV. It makes me feel disgusted that the hobby I am passionate about has anything in common with this nonsense...however it isn't much. Just when I feel annoyed with Amano aquascapes for being so fussy and expensive, along comes this rot. Like comparing famous nude masterpieces and photos of strippers...

interesting comparison, platytudes. I personally think that it was a sort of bad and good choice. I'm sure people will pay more to see the big aquariums, and I'm equally sure something will go horribly wrong and make the aquariums an expensive drain on the stadium. The fish (short of tank failure) should be fine though... just hope that the fish can get over the trauma of repeated whacks from baseballs and the resulting shockwaves....

The only thing wrong with the tank is the location. Foul balls will ding off it which will be about the same as parents not telling there kit to stop while they are slamming there fist on the glass of the fish tank at the doctors office or friends house or whatever. When I see that I always think of finding nemo when the little brat is punching the fish tank glass.

So if this is fish abuse so is allowing children to tap on the glass yet parents everywhere could give a darn.

Oh yeah and it looks like a "tanked" design with the horrible fake coral. Can't any of these places hire people to put in good natural looking stuff in there tanks.

I can't think of a better way to sum this one up from the hobbyist's point of view.

But if we step back a bit, this really isn't a whole lot worse than what any public aquarium presents to the public. I'm going to assume there will be a way to keep the little kids with mini bat in one hand an ice cream cone in the other from doing the obvious, but you never know. It's the foul balls and the 45 foot curve balls in the dirt getting by the catcher that have me shaking my head more than anything else. I really wonder if they've tested the darn things at 90MPH+ ?
Lastly, these tanks will be in front of field-level box seats; I'm sure the construction and maintenance of these tanks was built into the pricing of those seats. Lets face it, in this country if you can afford it, there's somebody ready to sell it to you.

To better explain: My son and I were just watching a Junior College BB game this weekend. One kid was dialing it up at 91-93MPH. At one point, he crossed up the catcher, and the ball went sailing right by his glove. The backstop was made of solid 2X lumber with a thin layer of neoprene rubber stapled to it. When that ball hit the backstop it sounded like someone set off a hand grenade.

Not a huge number of balls will make it those tanks on the fly.

But the ones that do...................

I'm sure they keep a lot of spare fish on hand too. ;)

That is because it is a Living Color Aquariums design. They are basically just like the Tanked people.

Ever tank they build has huge amounts of fake coral as a center-piece. They build setups like this for stores, businesses, public aquariums, etc.. Most of them dominated by large amounts of fake coral inserts. They even sell a coral insert frame that goes over the Mega-Flow overflows.
