Are backstabbers at the workplace common?

No you are wrong..You see mostly men are police officers..Usually there is a code of silence among them..Meaning that when they see something wrong, it is not mentioned to anyone..

Also, this might seem kind of off the wall, but men go into war and not women..Your fellow male comrade in war will save you from being killed in battle..It is in the same in the workplace, the mentaility of a male saving your behind in getting into trouble..

Women just think differently..They have a different mind set...They talk more, gossip more, are more catty, etc..That is just how they are..Even women will tell you that..

Whoa whoa whoa there.. your now hitting on so hotter issues than backstabbing in the workplace and i think some of your remarks are pretty unwarrented.
Theres actually alot of female police officers(nope i dont know the exact number, but im sure if you look it up you'd be surprised) And I'm pretty sure that most cops wouldnt turn a blind eye as you say to a fellow officer doing something wrong.
As for your "women dont go into war" comment, where'd you learn this at? Take a look at today's military, once again the numbers will surpise you. Maybe not nearly as many women go as men, but women DO go. I perosnally know several including a sister-in-law. and its not that only a man would save your behind in battle. its the type of job you have. women or man, its the mindset that your behind's depend on eachother for saftey, and has nothing to do with gender. visit at a fire department(or join a volunteer) do a ridealong with them, or a police department, you'd understand.

Lets stay on topic, and not turn this into a gender bashing thread. Watermelon, some comments were uncalled for and insulting towards women. This isn't the place...

I've been backstabbed both by women and men. The mature thing to do is to not get bothered by it... Show maturity, and if there's an issue at hand, speak to a supervisor or manager and voice your concerns. Avoid gossip. Your managers have better things to do than to listen to gossip around the office. They should see right through the "problem starters"... And if they don't, well they'll just be hurting their company...

at least in my line of work i don't have to deal with that, though driving expedite can be lonely, away from home alot often times hundreds of miles away. but, it beats dealing with backstabbers at work, i've dealt with that before. unfortunately, i don't think i will be able to drive anymore unless these panic attacks i have been getting start to go away. driving can be very stressful, probably why i started to get them.

backstabbers... im afraid that after growing used to the camaraderie that is common in the service, im afraid this will hit me pretty hard going out into the civilian world later this year. i guess i'll have start anger management right after my discharge

people are mean. plain and simple. I know a friend who has the best bumper sticker EVER.

Backstabbers are everywhere. If you're lucky you just aren't aware of them.

My best examples are from a job which I had for 9 years. For about the 1st 7 years or so I mostly kept to myself and was on good terms with everyone (at least I think I was). Then I became friends with a coworker with a reputation of being a "partygirl".

I guess my association with her kind of put me into the spotlight and people started making accusations against me to my boss. Stupid, untrue things, like taking a 1/2 hour break or talking about inappropriate topics at work.

Then, about a year after I quit, I talked to my partygirl friend. She had run into another of our ex-coworkers. He had mysteriously dissapeared from work a couple of years earlier- one day he was at work, then next day he was gone with no explanation. He told her that he had quit because his supervisor wanted him to press charges against me and my friend for sexual harrassment and he refused!!!!

It wasn't easy for me coming back to the real world. Unfortunately business fosters the mentality of everyone for themselves, and people see back stabbing as a way to get ahead or get rid of people that either threaten them or they dont like.

Went to CIV LANT after 22 yrs in the Navy. Very different out here, though I am one of the lucky few that has had one and only job in my 13 yrs out here. So many of my friends that did more than 10 or 12 in the military, had about 6 jobs the first yr out.

Were I work (at pepsi), theres this one woman who is really forward with the guys in higher management. She constantly tries to make a move on you. One of my buddies in marketing fell for this; He had what he called a "sexy" conversation with her, and ended up going to court for something similar to sexual harassment (a lot less severe). Lucky for him, there was no jailtime, he got to keep his job, and was ONLY charged with a $2500 fine.

Anyone will come across backstabbers anywhere they work. The 3 things I HATE (and that is putting it mildly) is liars (backstabbers), cheats and thieves. If someone lies about something I did or said and it isn't true. Then I will find out who did the lying, and confront them. I learned all the hardness from my mom (I tell people she is Satan's mother, and she says when she dies she is taking over H##L, I love my mom dearly, she is my best friend and my mom). I don't have a problem with confronting people who are backstabbers. Step on my toes and Sybil comes out. And it takes alot to make me mad. And I have encountered men and women backstabbers in all the places I have worked at. Even going to Vet. Tech. school... And as for the women being in the service, MN has lost over a dozen women due to the war and more in the line of fire or in a fire. So all of our men and women are fighting for us and saving our lives and saving our homes. And they sacrifice their lives for ours..
