So my Black Mollies have a goldish/orangish spot on what I would call their cheek (to the side of the mouth). I was wondering if this is normal, I have only had these fish a few months and think it has been there since I got them, but just wanted to make sure it was normal.

Thanks

There are so many color forms of Mollies out there===Who knows what is "Normal". It can be bred out, or it can be bred in.

yeah, it seems likely these blacks have a gold/orange/yellow/pumpkin/whateveryacallit ancestor a few generations back. You might try shining a light in from the side and seeing if they have any other little orange spots on the body. There is no disease I know of that would produce gold spots on the cheeks as a symptom.

If you were to breed these back to "pure" black molly mates the orange would turn up in very few of their offspring; if you bred to a "pure" orange they would be black/orange dalamation. Have you had any offspring from your current group or are they all the same gender?

No offspring yet. I have 1 male, they sold me as marble, but looks really black, 2 females they sold me as black (the ones that I see the orange cheeks on), and 1 dalmatian female (that I can see one orange spot on).

I have only had these fish a few months, I had a few deaths, found out now that I had camallanus worms, and just wanted to be sure I didn't have any other illnesses I needed to treat for.

THANKS
