Are Briggs ok with Potassium?

Wow! I am glad I found this thread! I had a snail come out of it's shell last week and wondered if it was the chemicals I add for my plants...one being Potassium. Thanks so much for the information.

Wow, you do have hard water! Post-softening, a pH of 8.4 is still quite high. I can see why you use that softener! I would definitely test the salinity though, just to be sure that your brigs aren't suffering from too much salt in the water.

You can check it with a hydrometer like this one:

They're not as accurate as a test kit, though:

You can also use a salinity meter if you can find one to borrow (ask any pool maintenance people you know, sometimes they have them) but they are rather expensive to purchase, from $100 up.

Best of luck! Keep us updated. :)

Thanks guys, they are all doing fine now. I still have them isolated and maybe it is ending up being a good thing because this way I can fatten them up and get them to mate. I have never had a clutch before so maybe this will help.
When I went to pick up spring water I had to read the label carefully because some brands also have potassium added!
