Hi Friends !

A lot of people are telling me that Brine Shrimps are a bad food choice as they have NO nutrition. Is this true ? I'm planning to get Frozen BrineShrimps because my Fronts just go crazy over the freeze-dried ones and I thought that they would just love the frozen ones...

Can I feed my Fronts Brine Shrimps everyday ? Will it affect their health ?

I was told that the fronts will not grow if I give them only brine shrimps - is this true ?

Kindly advice and guide me...
Thanks and Regards

Baby brine shrimp are very nutritious. Adult brine shrimp are not very nutritious at all. Ask your supplier if they can get frozen mysis shrimp; your fronts may like them just as well, and they are more nutritious.

Hi there !

Thanks for the reply...

I tried that but the Mysis Shrimp are Hikari Brand's and they are available only illegally here in India. They cost a HUGE sum in my currency and I could buy a whole new tank for the same price...

Anyways, wont the brine shrimp not help atall to make my Fronts grow ? Will they be atleast of some help ?

I've ordered 2 Kgs of frozen Brine shrimp and I'm really sad that they'll not be very good for my fronts... :(

Baby brine shrimp are nutritious becuase of their yolk sac, which is what feeds the shrimp (correct me if I'm mistaken), but because baby brine shrimp grow so quickly by using up their yolk sac, they are only nutritious for the first 8 hours or so. Newly hatched fish do very well on baby brine shrimp, and older fish can get nutrition from frozen and freeze-dried adult brine shrimp, but most fish cannot get all of the vitamins and supplements they need from brine shrimp (or any similar meaty food) alone, since they're deficient in providing a wide span of vitamins. Frozen and freeze dried foods are good because they're gutloaded to enhance their nutritional value, but are typically used as more of a treat with sub-adult and adult fish. Cichlid pellets need to be the staple everyday diet for your frontosas.

They are an acceptable food, but you will need to supplement with more nutritious foods. Will your fronts eat pellets? A high quality pellet should keep your fronts healthy, with brine shrimp added as a treat.

Hi Friends !

Thanks again for the kind replys...

I do have Hikari Cichlid Gold Sinking Pellets, Hikari Cichlid Bio-Gold, Hikari Cichlid Excell for them but they dont eat the pellets atall... They dont touch the Bio-Gold and Excell and only taste the Cichlid Gold Sinking pellets... I really want them to eat these pellets as they are very good for them...

They only eat freeze-dried brine shrimps readily...

Can I do anything to enrich the frozen brineshrimps ?

Kindly guide me...

They may not recognize the pellets as food, or they may be holding out for their favorite junk food (shrimp) instead of eating the food that is good for them.

There are a couple of things you can try.

One, crumble the pellets up and offer them at the same time with a small amount of brine shrimp. This way the fish will be in more of a feeding mood when they see the pellets and will try them when they cannot find enough shrimp; do this a few times and the fish should begin eating the pellets even without shrimp added.

Two, quit feeding them shrimp and only offer pellets until they begin eating them. Once they decide pellets are food, you can begin offering shrimp as a treat once again.

Baby brine shrimp are great, and I get the ones with spirulina or soak them in a vitamin soak before feeding. This ensures that there is good nutrition. I never feed just one food, though. I feed brine shrimp, bloodworms, tubifex worms, mysis shrimp, daphnia, cyclops, in addition to flake, pellet, and crisp foods. I feed freeze dried and frozen. It seems to take a couple days before they realize that the frozen foods are edible if they've been feeding on flake or whatever at the lfs, but after they do, it's a feeding frenzy. When I say they, I mean my tetras, mollies, bumblebee gobies, figure 8 puffer, betta, etc. I'm not sure about my plecs because I hardly see them.

Another suggestion: flavor your pellets with garlic. Most fish find garlic irresistable.

Wow ! Thats really interesting - Can you please guide me on how to do this ? Do I just rub a few garlic pieces on the granules ? Can I soak the pellets with garlic in a little water ? Kindly guide me on the correct and efficient way to do this...

Also is garlic good for them ? Will garlic pollute or cloud the water ? Can I also feed raw garlic pieces alone ? Wont it be too spicy for them ?

Kindly advice...
Thanks a lot !
