Are fish pets or a hobby?

Ditto on kasakato's assesment.

Fish are pets, but growing the plants for thier environment is the hobby for me

I hate to be the blacksheep, but I dont consider them pets at all. This is really just a hobby to me. I dont name my fish or anything like that. The only one I truly care for is my rainbow shark, besides that, they are just fish. (curls into fetal position expecting a kick) :D

I might change my mind if I had a bigger tank with a single fish in it, though. There is a huge nile puffer at a lfs in portland I go to that reminds me of a dog. Awesome fish.

and it's not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire...

And would that be a swingline stapler?......lol

depends on the fish mostly just a hobby to me though.

That's a tough question. My dogs are like children to me..almost. WHen my older girl (four footed)died a few years ago..I was devistated. Fish...well I don't want to loose one, and take care of them, but I don't sob for days curled up on the bed if I loose one.

Pet: n an animal kept for amusement or companionship

Fish would be pets. I understand the difference some would have between an amusement piece vs. a companion. Hand feeding my BGK makes me feel like I've got a small aquatic dog, where my danios nipping my wrists, are just fish.

What? You people keep fish?

What forum did I join? I thought this was AA. *burp*

In numbers, the majority of my fish are hobby - all of the schoolers and most of the cleaning crews. When they start fading from old age it is regretable, but not a painful emotional thing. But some of the fish are very definitely pets, especially the larger puffers. After you have kept a big-eyed, tail-wagging, toothy beast for 10, 12, or more years, they are definitely companions, and can pick you out of a crowd without being able to smell you.

....a nice, pretty bright red Swingline.... Office Space. Best Geek movie ever. I married a software engineer and I've been to their company Christmas parties. THAT is some scary and humorous stuff. I'd highly recommend crashing one if you ever get the chance! LOL ;)

As far as my fish go, they're pets to me! I don't name them, but my children do. The more attached THEY get to them, then the more attached I get!

I love it when we feed the fish at night and my two year old goes "Night Night Angelfish! Night Night Pleco! Night Night Catfish! Night Night Little Yellow Fish!"

Kids and fish are the greatest!
