Are flag cichlids rare?

Not rare; like anything else, they may be less available in some places than others.

thanx i ask this because i got one from petco along time ago and i go in there about once a week and i have never seen another one

According to some sources 'Flags' don't ship very well & are only available (wild caught) for a very limited time each year. That would account for the shortness of supply.

My local garden centre aquarium secion has a tank of them if thats any use
