I have a 200 gallon saltwater tank , but im starting to get bored with it as I cant really get corals to take off like i want them

and I though about a 200 gallon plant set up with that super naturals aquarium white sand and maybe a sing ray or 2 ,

I had a friend that had one a few years back and his was always swimming around and it was fun to watch it eat, however he had his in only a 40 gallon and that might be the reason it was so active.

im just wanting someting when i feed it or walk by its atleast out sometimes

also can you keep schooling fish like neons ect with a stingray if you keep it fed

my friend paid $50 for his when he got it from the petshop and the same guy told me he can get me one for 50 bucks and its about 4 inches wide, w hich is considerably smaller than my friends, his was about 12 inches wide with a pointed nose and light grey

just wondering here what the stingray owners have to say about their stingrays

I don't have one, but anything that can fit in their mouth will get eaten.

Again, I don't have one, but all the ones I've seen have been really active.

If I had a big enough tank I'd get one.

yeah

ok , well im not going into this blind ive been reading about them for some time now and ive been keeping fresh and saltwater tanks now for about 5 years

My stingrays are active almost all day long. Specially when lights go off.

When it's feeding time, you will see them dart on top of the food if they really like it. As for mine, when I put some earthworms in the water, they sense it quickly and start moving from one side to the other until they detect theuir position either with their fin of by his "electrical" sense.

As for neon tetras, they will become snacks one by one until you see no one in your tank anymore. Once I lost two 2" bala sharks in my ray's stomach when it was only 4" wide.

If you are planning on housing freswater stingrays, you must keep a excellent filtration and water quality. However, if you are used to reef tanks requirements, keeping rays will be not hard for you.

ok

yeah i have an octopus right now thats 6 months old.

so what kidn of filtration do you have on your stingray tank

one will be plenty , no need for two of them

any idea what kind of stingray my friend had ?

My filtration ios performed by a custom made wet dry filter. It is biult in a 55 gallon container. Water passes thru mechanichal filtration and then spashes on bio-balls. Water movement is ran by a 90 liter per minute pump (1400 gallon per hour)m which turn water about 6 times per hour.

nice

do you have any pictures of your stingrays

the only way im going to get a stringray is if i buy another tnak sometime in the future, because im not tearing down my 240 saltwater tank , ive just put too much money into it.

I can get a 240 gallon aquarium for $400 , but if i want overflows ect , its extra

im not that crazy about having a sump

I dont own a stingray, but from what I've seen they are fascinating specimens. They are extremely intelligent, and will eat out of the palm of your hand. (Make sure that the sand you use isn't alkaline or will buffer your pH or hardness. Freshwater stingrays like soft, slightly acidic/neutral water.)

I have a link to some pics in my signature.

I gotta say, I've had a stingray for about a month now and never grow tired of watcihng him. Although he has periods when he is dormant (so do my cats) he is very active at othertimes and very fun to watch. It was all in all my best fish purchase yet.
