are freshwater stingrays active or boring?

pataloco

hey , i talked to the petstore and they told me I can get a stingray that is light brown with dark brown spots on it, he said that they come in about 3-5 inches wide.

he told me if i wanted to spend more money I could get the black stingra with white spots

what do you guys think?

im in the process , or I will be soon , of tearing down my marine 240 gallon tank and making a freshwater stingray tank out of it , amongst a few other fish.

as of right now I have a emperor 400 filter and two millenium 3000 filters

does anyone else have any other kidn of filtration to reccommend???

For freswater stingrays, filtration must be double the recommended for most tropical fish. So, if you are setting up a 240 gallon tank, get a filter or combo of filters that sum a 500 gallon rating. I cant recommend a specific brand since I built my own filter, but having extra filtration is a must.

If you can afford it, get the black ray: it's probably a motoro or a leopoldi. They are hardy and look better then the brown counterparts.

thanks for posting

is the spotted ray usually alot more expensie

im talkinga botu the
Potamotrygon leopoldi

i mean I realy dont want to spend over 100 on my first ray

i have seen and read places of people selling rays for 200 bucks .

im wanting one for under 100 ,

though i would like to have the black with the white spots

i was planning on using that freshwater / marine white sand for freshwater tanks under tha brand super naturals aquarium gravel

would this be ok ?

I have kept a stingray and I will say there is nothing like it. I actually just should all 13 of my 3-4inch rainbows and am planning on getting another stingray. My last one was eating out of my hand within a couple of weeks. Whenever I would come into the room, open the lid, and tap on the glass he would come swimming over to that side of the tank. If you always feed your fish in the same location they will remember and wait for food there when they are want some. Of course you have to be careful since fish will eat non stop if you let them. My last ray was kept in a 75 gallon tank and It was big enough for him. Of course he was a small one, other wise he would have needed a bigger tank. I had to sell him because I moved out of state. It is sad, but I am hoping that in the next month I will have another one.

if you want to know about stingrays, go to monster fish keepers, they have a sting ray forum and they have been the most helpful with me in learing about the types of rays and personalities ect.
