I've read that Guppies are freshwater but can live in brackish conditions, but then I also read that Guppies are brackish and some can live in freshwater. What exactly do guppies live in? I want to buy some, but I want to confirm this before doing so.

Off topic question : Is AQUARIUM SALT ( not table salt or marine salt ) bad for the guppies? It says it helps slime coat and reduces stress.

Fresh. and most of us no longer utilize salt for slime coat or water treatment, just a treatment for certain ailments such as parasites, etc.

It is potentially harmful in the long term, so I would avoid adding salt. In the wild guppies will live in fresh to brackish water, potentially even ventuaring into full marine occasionally. They are a highly adaptable fish. But that is wild and I doubt there is any wild in the guppies you buy these days. Fresh is more than fine for them.

Adding salt long term can also hurt any live plants.

And ask this question - Why would a fish want more of a slime coat?
