Thanks this explains everything, no bodies, no signs, just missing fish. It's been happening to us... and it was terrifying. We couldn't understand what had happened... We had 8 fish die over 2 weeks from a disease outbreak, and they were gone in hours, including a 2 inch minnow, and a slightly bigger betta. It looks like it was the fan shrimp.... who i never suspected.....until now.
