The EPA standard for municipal water systems is 10 ppm nitrate-nitrogen, which is not at all the same as nitrate. The figure of nitrate by EPA standards would be 4x that number, or 44 ppm nitrate. The water posted at 30 ppm nitrate is well under EPA requirements and is not uncommon in agricultural areas.
