I have three adult Sterbai Cory's in a planted 75g I bought several months ago at an auction. They were Q for a month in a planted 20g, then put in the 75g. They have always been very shy, hiding with in the plants, never really swimming about. The 75g also has two Albino Cory's, a LFBN and 8 baby Angels. The albino cory's and LFBN are not shy at all, as a matter of fact, they are like wetpets in my tank. I know cory's like to be in groups of 6 or more, but before I go to the expense of buying more Sterbai, I'd like to know anyone else has shy Sterbai's. Thanks!

My sterbais have never been shy. I started out with three and they would be out in the open. When I added more, they swam everywhere. Just give them time to get use to your tank.

Grrrr, I wonder what's wrong then, I've had them since June, they were moved mid August, it's been 6 weeks, how long do these little sucka's need?????

They need three more buddies at the minimum. My six are everywhere. They are also schooling with my juliis now. They seem to be much more outgoing when there are more of them. I would also get some more albinos if you want to see interesting and more natural behaviors from them.

your albino corys need some more friends too. keep them at 6 or more of each and the tank will be full of activity on the bottom. i say do about 6-10 or each.

I have sterbai in all my tanks. My 55G is the most densely plantedd and there's about 20 of them in there. They are extremely shy and seem to only come out a bit when food is at the front of the tank. If I told you there was 20 in there and you sat in front of the tank for a while I'm sure you would say I was fibbing! I have a couple of elderly albino's in the same tank and they never hide. They even sleep right out front by the glass. I can't tell you over the years with them how many times they've gotten into my python when doing gravels vacs....they just don't get out of the way. I have 6 sterbai in my discus tank. I do see a bit more of them since the tank is not as heavily planted but they still dart for cover if they see you peering in at them. On the opposite side of the spectrum in this tank I have a dozen black cories that never school, spread out all over the tank, and seem to do more sleeping all day long than anything else....sprawled out all across the tank right out in the open. They are not skittish whatsoever. I have some sterbai in my juvie pleco tank where there's not much cover except for a couple pieces of driftwood and they are out in the open more than the others. When I was breeding them, I took a dozen and put them in a 20G tank with no cover and their behavior was entirely different.....more swimming, more being at the front of the tank. So some of them do have more shyness than others, and I've come to the conclusion that the more cover, the more they hide and are skittish when approaching the tanks.

I have another 75g tank I set up a few weeks ago. When it's finished cycling (I'm using Seachem Stability) I'll prob move them over to the new 75g and get 9 panda cory's for the old 75g. I've had panda's before, they weren't shy at all. Thanks all....
