Are there fluorescent bulbs that fit hoods using incandescent (regular) bulbs?

I have used the 13W spiral in my 10 and its all that would fit. In my 20H I went on line and bought 2 of the 20W ones made for aquariums. They went right in and have been going strong. As someone said you can get a 10W at Walmart if that's all the light you need. I only wish the covers for my tanks were made with enough room for some 23s. The other thing to watch out for is the light fixture rating. Watts are heat so don't get a lamp bigger than the light strip rating, that would be dangerous.

Watts ARE NOT HEAT!!!.

Ahem, Watts is the measurement of electrical power. The reason for those "ratings" is so you don't put too much of the old incandescent bulbs in which produce alot of heat.

another reason is so that you don't draw too much current for the cord it comes with. Say you have 2 70w bulbs using 110v power source. Using the formula P=IxE (where P is power, I is current [or amps] and E is voltage) we can determine that the total current = 1.3 amps, and if you have real small wires, the current can be too much, and starts a fire.

on the subject of heat, I have noticed when CF bulbs are installed any way but glass up ballast down, or in enclosed areas, they produce a whole lot of HEAT. not sure why the up down sideways thing happens, but the semi enclosed installs I have done have gotten so hot the ballasts have deformed..

That being said, many people have done this with LOW WATT bulbs in hoods with excellent results. I have only ever used them for residential lighting in higher watt ratings
