Are they 'pets' or 'animals'?

My fish are just animals, except for my bettas and my crabs. I think it also matters if you name them. Like most, I name my bettas, but not the other fish.

If I talk to them all the time would they be considered as "pets" even though most of them ignore me? hehe LOL

Some people treat animals in different ways. I consider the person who keeps their dog outside all the time and gives it food and water but little else as a person who has an animal. The person who makes the dog part of the family by caring enough to provide it with attention and love, plays with it, pets it... that's the person who has a pet.

^ nailed it. Dogs, cats, hamsters, parrots, cichlids and other fish that beg for food - pets.

Fish that avoid you or are oblivious to you, most herps (except some turtles), birds that don't ever get tame (like most finches) - not "pets" so much as "kept animals" - though I do my best for them as well, there's not much point in worrying about how much attention they get.

my fish or any other animal i keep is a pet for me.

I would say there are favorite individual fish that I have kept that I did consider as a pet. The rest were just classified as "collections"

Pets, i name most of my saltwater fish and shrimp and feel quite bad should they pass away.

seriouslythough id be heartbroken if my picasos died, and it upsets me greatly to see a coral die as well, its just a really bad feeling especially with corals.. dogs are on a whole other level though when they die.
