I like the idea of decorating it for the hollidays. A strand of lights would be a good idea.

As for the aquascape, it looks really good. The only thing i can think of is to move that piece of wood a bit to the left. In painting/photography, there is whats called the rule of thirds. if you draw two lines vertically on the tank, you devide it into thirds. Now you draw another 2 lines horrizontally and devide it into thirds that way (thus giving you 9 equal size "boxes") The point where the lines intersect is your focal point. If you use the method above, you end up with 4 different "focal points" but you should only have one. It will be 1/3 from the top/bottom, and 1/3 from the left/right. From my eye, it seems the piece draws a focus about 1/3 from the top of the tank(this is good) If you move it a bit to one side or the other it will have a more apealing look to it. The reason I suguest to the left is because of the smaller structure there, it will be easier to move than the larger cave to the right. Like I said, it looks darn good as it is, especially the "flow" of larger plants in back, and the smaller ones up front. I may even steal your cue of those little ones in the left front corner. A small detail that does a lot for the looks.

Oooo...I copied and pasted this info to save it. Very good information. Thanks for sharing it. I will move it a bit I think you are completely right. Makes me want to get out my tape measure to get exacts.....I'm a bit OCD that way. LOL. Very cool..thank you thank you.

Thanks everyone. So....is anyone else silly enough to decorate their tanks for the holidays? :) My hubby says that if anyone stands still long enough in this house I'm bound to drape them in garland this time of year. LOL. Well..he also claims if you stand in one place in the yard for too long I'll put a flower bed around you.

Here's my 36 bowfront. No X-Mas decor, but how's the aquascaping?

Plants need to grow out some more.

Roan it's beautiful! I just am too afraid to venture into a completely planted tank. It looks so nice. Awesome tank

I never thought of decorating tanks for Christmas...and I just bopught that same ribbon yesterday on sale at Joanns!

You have excellent taste in Christmas ribbon :D :D

I got mine yesterday at Hobby Lobby. I work there one day a month for the discount! LOL. I got it for 42 cents a yard and bought what was left on the roll. It's cute!!!
My poor rainbow fish and emperor tetra's have been trying to pick at it thru the glass all night. They don't understand at all...of course they have the "If you can't eat it, what's the point" mentality! Somedays I know exactly how they feel

Ha - finally !
Heh, I wondered if you would see this pic :)
I love it... especially that large grey rock on the right. I think it'll look awesome when the plants get larger.....
Thanks, Hannys_Papa :)

The big gray rock is a 29# block of Black Pearl Soapstone. There's a 19# piece to the left holding the driftwood up. The rest of the grey is also Black Pearl. White is reg. soapstone. No idea if it will degrade over time or not, they're not permanent residents. I'm not doing any carving at the moment, so I thought I would give them a temp. job :)

There's amazon sword at the back, but you can't see it yet. Some day . . .

Actually i would like to apologize for what i now realise was fairly rude - commenting on roans tank but not yours - mykidsmylife.

I really like the arrangement and use of plants (life/ fake). I also mixed these in my small tank. Great looking piece of driftwood....

Thank you!

Why, thank you :)

I think I was going for that "roadside stream that every dumps stuff into" look  I mean, if you add a few beer cans and plastic bags it would look like real Americana. Heh.
