Argh... filter ?s...

Well, I didn't end up going to Petsmart this morning, but I will be going on saturday or sunday. Please consider this to be a bump. :)

Just another friendly bump, complete with a brief overview of a thread to come. I'm still contemplating the secondary filter, but I may just go buy some new silicone tubing and just use my XP3. I'm not entirely sure, but I believe that it should be sufficient not only for water movement, but also for bio filtration for my tank, under the pretense that it will have mechanical filtration in the bottom 1/3 of the canister, and bio filtration in the upper 2/3 of the canister. Any opinions will be appreciated.

As for the new thread to come, my gf is inheriting a 29g tank from her roommate. Her roommate has kept goldfish in the tank for years, and of late, doesn't seem to really care about the tank. There are 5 goldfish in the tank I believe... one is a ryukin, which of late, has shown what I believe to be swim bladder issues. Its still alive, but it floats upside down, and rarely moves. The other 4 goldfish seem to be comets, and have grown to be massive fish... one of which has grown long enough that it can just barely turn around in the tank. The tank has probably not seen a real water change in 4-6 months. There were cobwebs all over the gap between the water's surface and the tank lid. The tank is covered in algae. There is a visible layer of sludge in the rocks in the bottom... probably close to an inch thick. The filter is so clogged its just barely trickling a stream of water back into the tank. Suffice it to say, this tank DEFINITELY has OTS. We're going to begin doing daily 5% water changes, and probably bump it to 10% daily after 3 days, hopefully giving the fish a chance to adjust to the new water. I can only imagine what the water parameters are... I'm going to test it this weekend. We are hoping to save the fish, and potentially find them a home. If anyone is in the LA/Orange County area, and is looking for 4-5 large goldfish, PM me, and we'll chat about them. We will start a new thread to show the progression and keep everyone updated on what's going on with her new (subjectively speaking) tank.
