I got a huge plant order on fri. Today in one of my tanks my 8" royal pleco died. There is a long thread in newbie forum that my wife started while I was dealing with the water change.
Some one mentioned in that thread that they have heard a lot of complaints about this place. Any Idea what is wrong here? They say they don't use pesticides. I have these plants in all my other tanks and with a lot more delicate fish. The only thing I added to this tank different than normal was some flourish excel. All I know is I have a pitcus cat that is looking bad and One dead, Beautiful, flawless and expensive fish. The last fish added to this tank was a fire eel. over 2 months ago. There has never been any sign of disease in these fish. The water is perfect, ammonia0, nitrites0, nitrates5, ph7.4.
The only thing that can be bad for fish but has not been a problem yet is the tank is by the window and by the heater. Basically the temp fluctuates sometimes between 86+ to 70- I know that is supposed to be bad but I have never had a fish die in this tank until today. 18months.
I would love to know if I need to possibly blame arizona aquatics for this.

I ordered form there before with no issue., The main complain is the shipping is slow and expensive. I am sorry to hear about your fish. That is quite the temp swing. You sure that isn't the issue? How did you dose your scel? DId you follow directions or overdose? Any sign of disease?

I know the temp swing is bad but a year and a half and never lost a fish from that tank. I followed the instructions with the excel. but from what I understand you can't overdose excel.

I seem to recall from an earlier post that your pleco was swimming in soup awhile back.... that coupled with a common 16 degree temperature swing might make it hard to pinpoint a cause of death. I'd be careful about badmouthing some company for killing your fish....

First of all I never bad mouthed anybody. In fact I think there plants came in great shape with very generous portions. Someone mentioned in a post that my wife started in the newbie forum when all this was happening last night that a lot of people had bad complaints about this place and I was trying to find out what they were. I don't know what you mean the pleco was swimming in soup. There was probably a considerable amount of time that the nitrates were high, but thats just a guess.

no I didn't think you badmouthed them...just wanted to make sure you thought about it if you were considering it. a few years back some people were sued (and some still are being sued, while others have settled) for making what might have been legitimate complaints online about a company they got some plants from... I won't use the name here for fear of being sued...SERIOUSLY

Sorry Fssh...about your pleco.
On a side note...you most certainly can overdose excel. Excel regular dose as directed is how it should be used. 2x's and 3x's are algae treatments, but can kill certain fish and invertebrates as well as plants.....and >3x is not good for anyone....

Yea I understand about the algae treatment but on the bottle it says the first dose should be 1capful per 10g then 1capful per 50g. I did the 1capful per 10g cause it was the first time. Still don't know what the cause was.

i was the one who "badmouthed" them, sort of. do a search on this site for az aquatics or arizona aquatics and lots of threads will come up from people who had very negative experiences with them - shipping delays, payment but no product, dead fish, horrid customer service, etc. . .
