Hi all,
Today I picked up a rather nice terraccota pot and allthough it looks nice in my tank I would like to remove a peice so it sits more level (at the mo its facing up on an angle). I would postion it different but its big and the effect I am looking for would be lost by having the back sticking up in the air.

Has any had experience of "selectivly" breaking or smashing pots in a desired way. I tried the old hammer and chilsel aproach on my last pot and well the result was lots of little pieces :D

Any ideas???

I used a dremel tool with an abrasive wheel to score mine(very deeply) then hammer and chisel along the score lines. you might also just cut all the way thgouhg with a dremel. and I agree, they never break the way you want them to.

if you score it fairly deeply, and then lightly hammer, it should pop right apart... make sure the pot is wet too.. sometimes that helps.

I had never thought of trying that I will have to keep that in mind for decorating ideas

Ok thanks all,
The pot was only a few dollars so I'll give the score and hammer methiod a try later today.

Will post how I get on :)

All went well :)
I scored the pot using a axe of al things and then with a bit og gentle tapping the peice broke away allmost exactly how I wanted and then I just tided it up with the hammer chipping bits off untill I was happy.

I will post some pics in a week or so when the tank setup/stocking is complete

As always thanks for everyones advice, I must admit scoring the pot before "whacking" it didnt occur to me (must be a newbie thing  )
