Ashley's "mini" fish room log

And "Bingo" was his name-o.

Lol yeah

I was talking to J Double R on here and I'm thinking about getting different shelves. If I can get the super duty kind then I could have more tanks per shelve and better peace of mind.

Updates:
-Plugged in the airpump, and it actually works!!!

Check out those bubbles! They work!! mwuhaha*mad scientist cackle* The plants I've thrown in a few of the tanks are hornwort and baby java ferns...just because I'm so excited I couldn't wait!

Here's a photo of a lid I made out of plastic craft mesh:

I need to cut a hole in it for the airline to go in

I set the light on the shelve and turned it on for the plants to get light, so no worries, they'll be fine!

Can you tall me what the blue things are and what they do? Are they just air stones?

The blue things are sponge filters. The are a giant sponge that draws in water through a mild current created by an air pump. They become populated by beneficial bacteria to act as a biological filter. Little floating particles get stuck on them too, so they are a mild mechanical filter. I think they are great to use with bettas because they don't create too much current but still effectively filter the water

Sponge filters are very under-rated. They are great in so many applications!

Keep the updates coming Ashley... You already have me trying to figure out how to fit in more tanks.

Update:

Here's a pic of the tanks a couple weeks ago. (The hex tank has been moved and replaced with 2 other 5 gal tanks)

Update: I switched out the tanks to one of those wire racks that can hold a lot more weight. I also fashioned my own plastic tops for all the tanks. I liked the ventilation the plastic mesh had, but the water temperature wasn't staying that stable at night.

I know the shelves look like they are bowing in this picture, but I discovered one of the legs was slightly unlevel. It is completely level now and 1000x sturdier than the last shelf.

The tank in the upper right hand corner just holds extra plants and driftwood, there's no fish in it.

You can see the clear plastic lids. Every fish now has mossy driftwood and anubias plants to rest on. Two new fish:

Poseidon: He came from a girl at my apartment building who asked me to care for him. He's a blue VT and has some sort of weird lip deformity. He's afraid of the camera.

Camila: I received her from a big chain petstore. The employee was concerned as her fins were rotted and clamped, and she was lethargic. She's a completely new fish today...still afraid of the camera though! Red cambodian

Next up is figuring out some sort of reflector structure for the lights so they don't shine every-which-way but in the tanks. I'm thinking like a simple wooden 4 walled box structure painted white inside. Like this:
