Never had my loaches go after my crypts, swords, lilies, hygros, or cabombas. YMMV, I guess.
If you're dead set on kuhlis, double them up - the more you have, the more you'll see them. When I had six, they'd come out and play. Now that I have 4 I only see them when I am cleaning under or behind rockwork. Also, make sure you build lots of hiding places - the more the loaches can hide, the less they will.
Tropica is a great place for researching plants. The one indispensible plant for an Asian tank IMNSHO is Hygrophilia difformis.
