ASM-G2 skimmer

Hey, there is a guy selling a ASM-G2 200 gallon skimmer in my area for $175- I havn't checked it out yet but I'm pretty sure it's it good condition. Is this a good skimmer-- would anyone recommend it?

IMO it is a completely "average" skimmer.. very reliable just not as effecient as some MUCH more expensive options. Having done the skimmer upgrade thing several times myself I can say for me I would not consider buying an ASM skimmer as my next skimmer because there are so many more options out there that are better, but that is only because I have bought so many already that from now on any skimmer I do buy is going to be one of the upper end models.. Warner Marine, BubbleMaster/King, and having seen the Reef Octopus skimmers in action myself I think even those are 10x better than the ASM skimmers and not much of a price difference. Huge price difference between ASM and BubbleMaster/Warner Marine though.

Deltec is also coming out with their next generation skimmers that are very similar in design to BK. Supposedly, the most efficient skimmers in terms of performance at this point are the conical skimmers, like Korallen-Zucht, ATB, I-Tech, Warner Marine, etc.

So if i'm looking to stay in the $200 or cheaper range would you reccommend reef octopus?

If i'm getting a 90 gallon tank, would you recommend I go with the 100 gallon model - or go for 150 or 125?

It has the fit in your sump.. so that is the first consideration.. once you figure out the biggest model you can fit and you can afford, get that one.

so for this skimmer it's okay if it's taller than my tank right? I will have space above my tank. And the water level doesn't need to be very high cuase that is the pump on the bottom right?

Yes, tall is just fine as long as you can still remove the cup.. need a couple extra inches of clearance for that.
