Does anyone have any experience combining apple snails with assassin snails? Most of what I have read about assassin snails is that they prefer smaller snails. There was one comment that assassin snails have been known to gang up on large snails and share the meal. Has anyone tried combining the two? What happened? Thanks!

I was wondering this myself but I'm too scared to try it so today during a cleanout and rescape I was mean and threw away every single pond snail I saw and squished all their eggs.... I'd rather be safe than sorry and have them hurt my babies!

I bought four skunk botia/loaches on bad advice from my fish store. They did a number on the snail population and on my guppies' tails. So I put them in a breeder box until I can bring them back to the store (closed Mondays) and in the meantime I have been picking out the pond snails one by one and feeding them to the botias. They pluck those babies right out of their shells. Cruel though it may be, it is rather satisfying to watch!

I hope someone knows about the apple snail issue, because I don't want to risk it but I really want to get some assassin snails. Sigh.

thanks!

I watched 4 take down a Mystery snail only after everything else in the tank of ediable size was gone, but I did not see the kill. So it could be the Mystery passed on and the assasins were cleaning up.

On the same note I have 2 in another tank that have not touched the Mystery in there. So to say 100% yes or no is a little hard at this point until more data comes in. I may have to setup an experiment to see.....man that list of things I want to test is getting long.

It's probably just that I don't know too much about Assassins, but I just don't see how a snail with a tiny tube would be able to take down and eat a larger snail.

well, if that tube can shoot a solution that liquifies a snails body, so that the assassin can then suck it out as juices... well, in that event, even a big snail would not be safe.

I have had them eat my baby spixi snails up to the size of a nickel

Another interesting subject to study on these snails.
