Assasin snails and apple/mystery snails??

I have so many ramshorn and pond snails that I am hoping they will keep my asassins busy for a while.

well, if that tube can shoot a solution that liquifies a snails body, so that the assassin can then suck it out as juices... well, in that event, even a big snail would not be safe.

Really? Isn't that something. But how strong and how much of this liquefying solution do they have?

honestly, I do not know. I have never even witnessed on actually yet. but I have read different accounts from songuru, who is, to my knowledge, the most knowledgeable guy around in regards to these snails.

It is strong enough to liquify a dwarf shimps innards....it may also have a paralizing property but not a lot of study had been done on these guys.

There are reports of them taking down larger snails and dwarf shrimp but they are all reports like mine where no one saw the actual kill. When given the chance I will try and confrim or debunk the rumours.

So I'm not saying yea or nay yet on this one until more study is done just as more of us keep them and more study is done we will know. Until that time just watch and observe until we can confirm things.

Given the number of people that keep them with larger snails (bridgesii, Nerites, etc) and reported no problems, I'm assuming that they either can't take down a larger snail, or perhaps the effort simply isn't worth it for them. Either way, I think it's a safe mix.

Dang. Too bad those darn skunk loaches took out my pond snail population in their brief tenure in my tank. Really cool how fast they went actually. The only thing left now is my apple snails. Are the assassins interested in any other food that could distract them from the big guys?

There are reports of them taking down Nerites. I would bet that if there were enough assassins they would gang up on a larger snail as I have seen them do on very large MTS where 2 Assassins took down the snail. I do not think it is a common thing and probably a last resort (starvation) or dying larger snail in the case of apple or mystery snails. Nerites and spixis I know they have taken down while they were still kickin. So I would say until more kill reports of larger snails are reported I would say you are 99% safe but I always leave wiggle room to get out of it.;)

Bloodworms and any food high in protien should do the trick. If they go after your larger snails let us know so we can chalk up another interesting fact about these guys.
