Assassins and Dwarf Crays?

Dwarf crays and fry are both okay with Assassins. I have never heard of a Dwarf cray taking down an assassin or vice a versa which would be almost impossiable unless it was a hatchling.

I wouldn't think vice versa would ever occur, would it? Assassins don't eat anything but other snails, don't they?

Read a couple cases of them eating dwarf shrimp. Being it didn't happen to me I can't say for sure.

Really? The OP might have to worry about the cray offspring then. Interesting, well... there's my new knowledge for the day lol

I dunno, I dropped an ADF into the 10 gallon with assassins (and pond snails), and the next day I found it apparently quite freshly dead. I know Endler's aren't poisonous, but have to wonder if the assassins are? I know some of their marine relatives are quite deadly. How else would they take down a shrimp? It's not like the shrimp would willingly sit still while it was being eaten alive.
On the other hand, I dropped in a young marble cray a couple weeks ago and it's just fine.

They also eat commercial foods but focus mainly on snails. Shrimps...only a few cases so far. None for crays I think.

There are a few good cases of Assassins taking down shrimp. Only 2 where the actual capture was observed. Basically the foot of the Assassin is large enough to pin the shimp and they only need to get a grip on one part of the shrimp to finish pulling it in. Now there have ben no IQ performance test of those shrimp that were caught but I would not be surprised to find it low on the shrimp intellegence scale.

As of this point poision is not something that is thought to be in the arsenal of the Assassin but I would not be surprised if it is, it will take a microbiologist or someone like that to make that call.

Assassins will feed on most protien based foods they are basically scavengers and snail hunters, but would not pass up a dumb shrimp or cray fry if the case presented itself. I do want to stress that this is an extremely rare occurance and your dwarf crays will out breed the number you might loose to assassins 1000 to 1 or more.

The only confirmed kills besides snails so far have been dwarf shrimp which in a way makes sense since shrimp are present in their native enviroment.
