Thanks ya'll for the suggestions. Smoses...who makes a blue sponge? Or are you talking about a kitchen type sponge? I've seen black ones, hydor brand maybe? For now I'm hiding it as best I can by moving my fake driftwood covered with java moss in front of it. *I* can still see it, but I know it is there and kind of look for it. Ah well, safe snailies are most important right now. They are both doing ok still so I think they are no worse for the wear. Thank goodness!! I'd hate to have to tell my step daughters I killed the snails They just love the little slimers.

I have the AC50 on my 10 gallon with pre-filter sponge, I also have a diffuser spong on the filters output to reduce current, works great for me!

THe sponge I used was for an Aquaclear 20 but you could probably jsut buy some extra sponges for your 50 and trim them down to size, I cut a hole small enough in the center to force to stay in place around the intake.
