Attack of the Pleco

You could could get a bristle nose pleco or two. They stay smaller and actually eat algae.

The Bala is small. about 3 inches long, and he's been in my tank for over a month with no problems with the other fish. The man at the fish store suggested I get the Pleco. What type of algea eater should I get for a 30g tank?

Nerite snails are great algae eaters.

large sucker mouthed fish don't need teeth and many are predatory.

this includes many pleco's...some of the species get quite large and hunt for shrimp. mollusk and fish.
they are opportunistic. not too long ago in a local lake they had dogs, ducks etc disappearing ...turned out to be a medium sized sturgeon.(sucker mouthed)

if you have lots of algae you may consider some of the smaller species of armored catfish..bn's, oto's etc.. feed primarily on algae(do keep wood in the tank tho.)
