Auto Tank Top off

Stupid Question, how would something like this work and do y'all have any recommended products? I almost just burned up a Maxi 1200 in my surface skimmer box. If I had gone to sleep at a reasonable hour I would have burned it.

I need something super cheap and small as there isn't much room behind my tank. I don't have an underneath the tank.

Do a search for do it yourself top-off systems. They are cheap and easy to put together. I would also use two float switches if you do decide to put one together.
Just to be on the safe side. I used a five gallon jug and a small pump I had on-hand to cut down on the cost. Good luck.

I use the JBJ ATO system and it works just fine for me. Everything goes outside the stand a it comes with the floats and you can set it up using 1 or 2. Liike BToast the water reservoir is a 5 gallon container with an inexpensive 404 pump that fits right through the mouth of the container (took off the faceplate and backplate). Great little small pump for this purpose.
