At a church yard sale/bazaar, i found hundreds of dollars in aquarium supplies... 3 55g UGF, about 5 flourescent hoods, 3 15w bulbs, 10g, 5.5g, lots of unopened fish food, ich treatment, tap water treatment, test kits, penguin filters, salt, gravel washer, 3 heaters, etc... just way too much stuff for me, but anyway, i asked about price and the guy said $1 if you take all of it.. (what could i do?) so i got sooo much stuff.. i ended up throwing 3/4 of it out just because it was old/opened/peices missing/cheaper to buy new than mess with/etc... but needless to say i lucked out and saved a bunch of hoods/UGFs, etc...

anyway, i found a brand new thing.. i'm assuming it's a automatic feeder, it has like 25+ slots in it, now i'm wondering how it works ... because i was planning on taking my fish with me when i went home, but if i get this up and working i won't need to stress them out..

Does anybody konw anything about these?

--- mine looks identical to this: http://aquariumpros.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=RB70100 it didn't come with any box, so i'm just guessing, but i'm 99% sure.

anyway, i have no idea how to use it and need help..

something offbeat here: i'm leaving for a week in about 2 weeks, do you guys trust the feeder blocks? i heard someone say they don't work because the particles of food that come off are too small and fish can't eat them...

Each is a little different, but you basically put the appropriate amount of food in each of the little segments and then set the timer to when you want the unit to dispense the food (with some units, you can program it to feed several times a day). When it reaches the set time, it automatically comes on and moves the next segment to an opening which drops the food into the water.

I've had mixed results with those vacation feeders you place in the tank - I find they tend to make the water cloudy and make a mess of the substrate as they dissolve.

If it isn't a digital one you usually place batteries in it, food in the compartment and let iy go. If it is like the Hagen variety (which I have) it doesn't seem to do anything, but every 12 hours it flys around and drop some food. Try adding some food to it (and batteries) and setting it over a little dish. Monitor it and see how often or even if it drop food out.
