Axolotl Babies: Journal with Photos

Haha sweet! That's the uni my brother is going to next year.

Ludwigia Ovalis is native to Japan :)
Lol, this 'weed site' is pretty cool, Hydrocotyle spp. Apiaceae looks like a weed we have in a dormant pond in the paddock.. Lol :]

Hmm, I might try to find some, it probably won't be hard since it's a weed, but I couldn't tell the difference between this hydrocotyle and another native/introduced species, and it would be nearly impossible to identify it, with all of the plants have have been introduced and the hundreds/thousands of native plants that we have here.

I have about 4 axolotls and always wanted to breed them.
Could you give some advice to how you could know which ones are females and which ones are males?
I've looked everywhere and tried to look at their undersides and everything, but I still cant tell. One axolotl is starting to look pretty fat, but I'm not sure if it's pregnant or not. My tank set up for them is large gravel with a huge bulk of java moss just sitting in the tank. The water flow is fairly slow. Is there anything I'm missing?

You should get some driftwood to stick the java moss too, I recommend you use silica sand or very fine gravel instead of gravel, as axolotls will grow and if they end up eating gravel then they will choke and die.

Axolotl's are egglayers, so they won't get pregnant. Also, I didn't notice my female getting bigger before she laid her eggs.

To sex axolotls, you have to look behind their hind legs. The male will have an obvious protruding lump (sperm sack) if old enough (about 1 year old), and females will not. That is the only way that I sex them and it works.

Good luck
