Azoo Palm Filter?

Sorry guys i just wanted to be sure. I will go with experience over whatever myth I might have read.

Cam: I'm just planning right now, probably OVER planning.

H3D: Sponge filter? Like one of those in tank filters that is just a pump with a case around a sponge? If that's what you mean I have one, never really liked it for fish tanks, the suction cups always came undone. Off topic: what year? I have a 98 civic 3D.

I use a small Elite (something-- I'm at work, it's at home, can't recall the entire name), but my beta got used to the flow very quickly and I think he likes the challenge. I did have an Azoo Palm filter on a plants-only nano tank for a while, but one time when I took it out to clean it (it attracted algae quickly), it failed to start up again regardless of what I did (even dipping it entirely in water didn't convince it to restart, though that can work with the filter device on an Eclipse 6). I was disappointed because the Azoo was cute, but it cost only $10, so not a great loss.

When I really needed one after I got Bob (the betta), the Elite was suggested and it has done well as far as I can tell. I tend to ignore it.

I'd prefer something that offered a mini-waterfall effect, like a HOB can, but even the smallest is rather large for a 2.5 gallon tank. I tried a Whisper-type in-tank filter before I got Bob, but the power source/pump for the thing was too loud, couldn't be padded into quiet, and I've put it aside to use only in emergencies.

So the Azoo Palm filter is cheap fun but too delicate IMO.

I had an AC20 on my betta's 5.5 gallon and no matter how hard I tried to reduce the flow, he kept getting knocked around. I bought the Azoo and set it up yesterday. It does fit over the tank frame and you can also adjust the flow. The only downside I have experienced so far is that it is noisier than the AC.

The Azoo with a sponge filter on the intake works great, I have several tanks that way for Betta. You just have to clean that sponge at least once a week. Works great for growing up fry too. Gives them a challenge.
