Following a recommendation from Leopardess I'm trawling to see if anyone has knowledge of this little filter. I've seen it on the www but no reviews or people with personal experience.

So, people....anyone got one or had one? If so, what are they like, how do they work (can't seem to find much info on how media is put in them)....and are they any good?

I'm considering one for a 2.5 gal minbow as the currennt internal whisper microfilter, although quiet, is kinda big!

Merci!

you are going to have to modify your tank or the filter to get it to fit. the palm tanks are just glass at the top without the extra moulding. so if your tank has it, it might be too wide for the filter to hang on to.

Blitzen, the Azoo will be for a 2.5 gal acrylic minibow, not an Azoo tank. The minibow has a plastic top with a cutout for a filter at the rear. Sorry if my post was confusing...thanks for the reply tho'. :)

andytwite, I am using this exact filter on the 2.5g minibow for the same reason - the filter it came with is just too big for that size tank. This filter is so far (about 2 months?) a very nice little filter. It uses a double sponge system, so you should be able to put whatever you desire in it, but I bought a package of refills with it for not much. It is very quiet, fits the tank quite well, fits in the cut-out. I left the internal in for a few weeks so I didn't have to cycle all over ( then moved the cartridge from the internal to the 5g galaxy to cycle IT!:) )

In my situation, the HOB feature takes up almost no extra room as the tank base itself is some part of the filter's dimension and then my tank is on a countertop with a 1/2" thick backsplash, so the tank is only about another 1/2" away from the backsplash.

The only real flaw I've found is it WILL NOT prime itself. Just fill it up though and it works well.

So there is my endorsement!

tawnylane, thanks so much for that info. Could I bug you a bit more please?

Would you say it's as quiet as the whisper micro those 2.5gal minibows come with. Any water splashing or can you fill tank to level of output (my tank has a betta in it).

Media - sandwiched between the 2 sponges? First sponge = mechanical, then media (carbon or ammonia remover), then 2nd sponge is biological filter? Or are ther separate chambers?

Overall rating (out of ten)?

Thanks you so much.

No prob andytwhite!

I had to go look at it - it's in a room kinda by itself:) - and the water level is down right now (I'm way behind on maintenance:o ) and there is no splashing - I couldn't even really hear it. If I remember right, I think it is quieter than the original whisper.

It doesn't really have seperate chambers, just a sump-like area where the impeller draws the water in and the filter area. The first sponge is a bio/mechanical type sponge and the second is a 'charcoal-impregnated' thingy - I keep it for another bio. I'd say there is plenty of room to put something between the sponges - I fit a flat bag of charcoal (tannin removal) between the sponges of my Fluval3 Plus!:D

Overall rating? Remember, I've only had it 2 months - but so far, it has been absolutely trouble-free. For size, ease-of-use (even having to prime it is not hard at all), quietness and potential versatility: I'd say a 9. Durability remains to be seen!;)

Feel free to ask any other questions!
