babies!

well, the original batch, we still have at least 4 going strong, and we have at least 3 of the 3nd batch, there are more than likely more than that however since i added the gravel its very hard to find them. there are always the odd one or two swimming around so i know we have babies still! they are starting to look like miniture corys now, can see all their fins, eyes and gill movement. they are so cute!

im wanting to get the bigger fry into the main tank asap, what size will they be safe from mum and dad and the neons and guppies?

The adult cories will not eat their young. I doubt the neons will bother them either. I've never kept guppies so not sure about them, but guppies don't eat their own fry do they? If they don't then I would think the baby cories will be fine with them too.

well at the moment, ive checked this morning, and we have 3 or the original batch, and 1 of the 2nd batch, tho more may have been hiding in the gravel and plants. the 1st batch babies are now looking like perfect miniatures of the adults, and the one from the 2nd batch is not far off too. im not risking putting them into the main tank until they are much bigger though, they are more than happy in their 15 gallon with their snail friends, i may even leave them in there permanently yet.

congratulations! i want babies (other than stinkin pond snails babies)!!!!

Congrats on the babies. I had about 100 eggs laid by my emerald on Nov 17th and let the eggs hatch in a net (like the ones for livebearers) and removed any white ones daily. I moved when they were two weeks old to my extra 15 gal tank that I keep running with extra fish, I moved the darter out and put the babies in. They are doing great and love to chase hands during water changes. As the tank has brown and black fluorite in it they are sometimes hard to see but I think there are over 50 left. After that long explanation, I recommend using the breeding net for hatching then moving them then you don't lose eggs to greedy tetras, like I did the first time.

Good Luck!!

well the 4 babies who survived are still growing bigger by the day, they are i would guess between 1/2-3/4inch long, are coloured up and are just like mini cories, they will be staying in the 15gallon tank they are in with the betta fish my daughters fell in love with, and the 6 apple snails. now i just need to find a cheap small filter, as their one isnt working very well. im so pleased i managed to get them to live, its a pity mroe didnt survive but im happy with the 4 we have.

sponge filters are great, but they do need a chance to ripen
