Was curious, what is the normal amount of offspring a breeding pair of Albino Longfin Pleco's have in one spawn? Currently I have a crop of about 50 off of one spawn, which is kinda funny because at first I could only spot 2-3, until one day they were all over the place :headbang2:

Also, what growth rate should I expect out of the fry and at what time should I remove them from the parents tank? Currently they are all in a 75 gallon long lightly stocked community tank (lightly stocked not counting the pleco babies that is).

They can spawn anything up to 200 at a time. Growth rate is a little slower in the Long Fins in my experience but I could be wrong. And why do you want to remove the parents they will not be a problem to the fry.

If they have started breeding and have not been interrupted odds are that there will be fry from the last spawn in with the next spawn. I have 3 generations in the one cave. Dad and mum just keep spawning in the cave regardless of whether or not the last spawn is there or not. ATM mine are spawning about every 3 weeks. So unless you have no room for them in the tank you don't need to remove them. Some of the others on the forum usually wait until at least 1/2" of growth before removal.

But a word or warning they are not easy to catch in a large tank. I have removed Dad and his 2 girls to a breeding tank and in the next couple of days I am going to stripdown the 180g and retrieve the 300 or so fry that were already spawned before removal of parents and are still in the 180g tank. Only females are going back into the 180g.

Good luck and enjoy breeding.

I would just trap them, place some food in a large net bent at a 90 degree angle and wait. If mom and dad wont harm the first batch when making the second batch I will wait. TY
