I recently acquired couple baby arowanas(some still have the sac). I would like to have some advice from arowana owner whom raise their arowana from baby. I want to know what you feed them with and how. Right now I put couple of arowana in my 50 gallons goldfish tank and some in my other 50 gallons guppy tank. I am feeding the arowana(the one without the sac) with freeze dried bloodworm.

I know they will grow very big and I have a bigger tank for them when they grow bigger. I use the guppies as feeder.

Thanks

i read somewhere that if arowanas still have the sac, that means the mother was killed cuz the mother holds them in her mouth until their sac goes away... just saying what i read

The ones with the sac means the father was killed to acquire them. You should have kept them because their survival rate is very low. The father holds them in their mouth until they are sac free and ready to live on their own. I condem this practice of murdering the father.

I admit I know nothing about arowana, but out of curiosity I checked out arofanatics.com and there's an article there on harvesting fry if you want to read it:

Sure doesn't sound like they harm the parent, though maybe it's not always done this way.

I don't know anything about arrowanas either, but it doesn't make sense that the holding parent would have to be killed in order to strip them. I would think breeders would figure out a way to strip the live parent, as your link indicates.

parents arent killed, well atleast not the asians and im sure the silvers arent either. but the asians which can go for tens of thousands of dollars treated really good by the farmers in asia.

havent had good luck with baby arowanas, with the eggsac they are extremely fragile. the 2 babys i had died but when i brought one that was about 5 inches he grew a few inches a month.

if you have them with your goldfish either the goldfish are warm or the arowanas are cold since they have different needs when it comes to temperature. guppies are good feeders now but try to keep them off live foods because its going to cost a lot later. once you get them going they are going to outgrow your 50 gallon by spring.

May I ask. How long did you keep them before the baby arowana die. Do you know why they die? I have couple of them that don't have the eggsac. They are all about the same size. head to tail is ahead 3.5 inches long. What do you feed your arowana??

Thanks

I think people are reading too much misleading information. I think I read the same article about killing the fish to get the baby. But I think you misunderstand why they are killing the fish. They are killing the fish as food. So they want to check to see if there are any fries in the month.
