Baby Arowana??

yes they dont kill the parents, it would be really hard to keep the farms going if they have to kill off the breeders all the time, this might happen in the wild but none of the arowanas are routinely wild caught except the black and the leichardti.

mine kept dying from infections and fungus. they are pretty fragile when young.
right now he gets hikari food sticks, shrimp, night crawlers, and sometimes rarely ever though feeder mice and cull angelfish and bettas.

when he was younger he loved guppies, live crickets and i also fed him small pieces of shrimp, small mealworms and blackworms.

Arowanas arent bred to be as food fish like pacus and tilapias. They are caught threw nets and spears in their native land of south america which is then sold and eaten. I'm sure that a male wont let his fry out naturally until they have no sacs and are ready to fend themselves in the wild.

Some sources claim that wild male silvers (Osteoglossum bicirrhosum), when netted, have a tendency to swallow any young they might be bearing; thus, if the latter are sought out alive, an axe or machete is employed to sever the adult's head, whereupon which the juveniles are scooped up with ease.

Actually, orally-brooding males may retain young for a short while after they lose their yolk sacs; see this link for a truly amazing video clip depicting young silvers fleeing to the refuge of their father's maw.

I dont know who said that they kill the parents when they take the babies, there is a bit skill involved but they dont kill the parents, there is a possibility of injuring their mouths if the timming is not spot on. I have breed asian golden arowana's before and if your water is clean you should not have many losses. As for feeding them go for guppies or what we used was baby neon tetra's,also any bugs and insects small enough to eat also blood worms and brine shimp should get you started. Then when they get bigger feed them crickets , frogs and live fish , try to stay away from gold fish, not very
nutritional.

Heres a good site. I had a link to a video clip of them taking the babies but i cant find it.

This mostly occurs with wild silvers/blacks (either taken expressly for that purpose, or as a means of generating additional revenue from a fish to be consumed anyways).

Gotcha. :bowing: I dont know much about silver/black arowana's, as in i mean to say I dont know how they go about collecting them. With asian arowana's as you probable know they are a C.I.T.E.S. fish which means you can not take them from the wild for any purpose, thats why they have such a big breeding program and killing them would be bad for business.

I forgot to mention that when the young still have their yolk sacs they are usually fine for nutrition.
