Baby crystal reds- WOOT!

Congrats!!! I'm waiting for one of my crystals to give birth too :D

What's your current PH? :-) I too, am worried about my hard water (sitting at 7.6).

Ah, I'm so jealous of you! :P
How big are the newborns? I'm curious to see what I should be expecting ^^ I think there was someone else on the forums who is expecting baby crystals soon too!

Mmm, I <3 spring, minus the allergy attacks.

So I had just about lost hope that my mama CRS were going to deliver viable shrimplets with my tap water conditions...until today, spotted at least 15, in a heavily planted tank so I assume there are at least double to triple that many. Here is a picture, not sure how well they will show up.One is in the seam of the leaf behind the adult, one is by her tail just above.

Congratulations ms!!! I am very proud for you.

Several questions:

Do you believe that you will be able to raise them to be adults and if not what percentage?

Have you been able to sex the adults and if so how more fry are you anticipating within the next month?

I somehow thought that in chat you indicated that you had your tap water condition under control without RO/DI?

I believe that your CRS were purchased from a Forum member and are in the A category.
Do you anticipate the purchase of A grade from other folks (or maybe just swapping) in order to preclude inbreeding.

I am confident that the ones that have hatched will be successfully raised to adulthood.

Looks like i have 4 females and 6 male adults. I am not certain, probably will have pregnant mamas again in about 3 weeks, not sure on the total baby shrimp count as the tank is heavily planted. I assume there are about 45 babies in there.

I feel like I do. It may not be in the stereotypical "ideal" range, but the proof is in the pudding. I do 3-4x weekly water changes on the tank and so far its working. I have a cubic yard of peat on standby if I notice that the babies are not thriving, or the mamas are not continuing to reproduce. I have consistent molts and the parents are very active and seemingly doing fantastic. No losses to date.

I would like to, however I don't think that is an issue right now. I would like to get more "fresh" blood within about 6 months time. As of right now, just building up the base stock is important.

So far so good! Comments in bold.
