Baby guppies!

G'day all one of my guppies gave birth today in the breeder tank she ate about 5 and i saved about 25 will they do ok in a small container with some floating plant? no heater or filter (to poor atm :() i plan on doing daily water changes to keep it clean for warmth ive placed it ontop of the breeder tank light. it gets warm but not enough to cook the fish. they will only be like this until they are big enough to go into my main tank or back to the lfs....turns out female guppies are rare at the moment in melbourne so i might get a few dollars. ive searched the posts here to get feeding info ect so hopefully ill have about 25 guppys in 2-3weeks.
 
A 1 litre clear plastic container with a few strips of styrofoam glued to the top sides and a couple of holes poked in the bottom with a pin makes a simple DIY floating playpen for your fry. My Gourami fry spend the first 7 days of their lives floating around in my tank in one of these before being moved to their own 5G tank. Easy to clean and it gets heat from the main tank.

Quite funny to watch the bigger fish staring at them through the clear plastic after nudging the container a couple of times - can tell what they thinking... LUNCH! :)

what do you do with the top part? Wont fry be able to get out or other fish get in?

The rocks help keep it afloat with around an inch of the top of the container above the water line and once the hood is on it presses down on the container as well resulting in a seal of sorts.

If you really worried about the other fish getting in perhaps a piece of net or nylon pantyhose stretched over the top might help although the jumper may get snared in the fabric and not be able to get back into the water.

From personal experience none of my other fish have tried to jump in - they just seem to swim around a few times having a look for a way in then get ignore it.

Heres a photo from the top showing a simple method of anchoring it to the corner of the tank with a piece of cotton thread and a clip made of wire.
