I have a tiny Mystery snail that has developed a small crack in it's shell above the head area. I was wondering if it will heal it self. The snail is eating fine and moves around the tank fine. I have no idea how it got the cracked as when I got it it was fine. Should I be concerned? And what can I do to help the heal the crack. I do put calcium tabs in the water. How often should I ad this to my water?

Ph is 7.8 I have hard water and temp is set at 75 degrees. I read another thread and it looks like the picture that someone posted and they said it was a fissure. The baby snail is a pea size it is with a much bigger burgundy striped Mystery snail who is fine.
fissures can be genetic. It should seal up with your temp and pH and a good diet. As long as no organs are exposed, it should be ok. sounds like you have everythign set up well for your snail.
Thanks for the quick reply. I just got them from Jackiomy and they are my first Mystery snails so I'm just learning about them. About the calcium tablets how offen should I add it to the tanks water? I'm going to add sea shells on the bottom for extra calcium.
what else are you feeding them? With your pH, you could just feed them a good diet of blanched vegetables or snail jello.
I've been feeding them, Tetramin algae waffers, Algae tabs, and they eat leftover food that floats on the bottom that my other fish or dwarf shrimps eat. I do have a veg. clip and dryed seaweed sheets I can feed them or romaine leafs.
I find the easiest thing is to buy a bag of frozen french cut green beans. I use a veggie clip to sink a single green bean (don't even have to defrost it) an dleave it in over night. it has a decent calcium content and holds together mch better than leafier greens.
Thanks, I will go do that then and buy some frozen green beans. I bet my bushy nosed plecos will eat it also. What about the calcium tablet or tums? Should I just forget about adding that to my tanks water as long as I feed something that has high calcium. Thanks for your help.
